«International Symposium on University Rankings in Europe - 29th June 2010, Brussels
Dear Colleague,
I enclose details of the forthcoming International Symposium, entitled Universities Challenged: Better Higher Education through a Better Ranking System in Europe?, which will take place on Tuesday 29th June 2010 at The Silken Hotel, Brussels.
A decade after the Bologna Declaration, an intense debate is still raging about the actual and comparative value of higher education in Europe.
Recognising the need for clarity to address the growing number of university ranking systems, the European Commission launched an initiative "for the design and testing of a new multi-dimensional university ranking system with global outreach" that is also independent from public authorities and universities. This special International Symposium provides a timely opportunity for universities and other stakeholders across Europe to examine the overhaul of the university ranking system within the context of the wider HE reform process.
I am pleased to advise you that confirmed speakers now include:
Mr. Robin van IJperen, Policy Officer, DG Education and Culture, European Commission
Mr. Noël Vercruysse, Head of the Department of Higher Education, Flemish Ministry, Belgium
Prof. Chris Brink PhD, Vice-Chancellor, Newcastle University, UK
The Centre for Parliamentary Studies welcomes the participation of all key partners, responsible authorities and stakeholders. The Symposium will support the exchange of ideas and encourage delegates to engage in thought-provoking topical debate.
For further details, please see the attached programme or visit our website. Do feel free to circulate this information to relevant colleagues within your organisation.
In the meantime, should you/your colleagues wish to attend, please complete and return the enclosed registration form at your earliest convenience in order to secure your delegate place(s).
Kind regards,
Jessie Punia
